The study adopts an intertextual approach, analyzing how Urdu fiction interacts with historical, religious, folkloric, and socio-political texts to reflect the nation's evolving identity. By examining selected works of key Pakistani short story writers such as Intizar Hussain, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, Khalida Hussain, and Asad Muhammad Khan, the research highlights how fiction is not only a reflection of society but also a space for reconstructing and questioning cultural norms. The study further investigates how literary devices such as symbolism, stream of consciousness, fragmented narrative, and allegory serve as tools for embedding cultural consciousness within fictional frameworks. The analysis reveals that Urdu fiction, while adopting diverse narrative strategies, often draws on deep-rooted cultural symbols to represent and critique Pakistani society. The research aims to contribute to the understanding of how literature, especially fiction, functions as a vessel for preserving and challenging cultural identity in a postcolonial, globalized context.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Zoraizhttps://ojs.mul.edu.pk/index.php/zoraiz/article/view/894منٹو اور فلسفۂ وجودیت2025-12-29T06:36:47+00:00Dr. Tanveer ur Rahman Tanveer-ur-Rehman@mul.edu.pk
Existentialism, as a philosophical movement, gained great momentum in the 20th century and dominated and influenced almost all disciplines. This research paper attempts to explore how his symbolic style compels readers to ponder and reflect on the multiple meanings and interpretations a single symbol can hold. It examines how a word can encompass profound depths of meaning and how these can be uncovered. Minra’s stories address a conscious reader who not only delves into their depths but also seeks out the unique meanings and implications of these symbols. He has made human psychology, sexual issues, the complexities facing human existence, and the various torments and trials endured by sensitive individuals the themes of his work. Minra possesses a distinct and unique symbolic system. In his works, a single symbol can carry multiple meanings, and many of the implications hidden within these symbols are yet to be revealed. Over time, as these meanings come to light, they will continue to affirm Minra’s status as a great and distinctive symbolic fiction writer.
2025-12-29T05:54:11+00:00Zahid Hussainzahidhuassain@mul.edu.pkDr. Sumera Akbarsumairaakbar@mul.edu.pk
In Urdu literary criticism, neo-trends are often associated with modernism and postmodernism. However, neo-trends and postmodernist theories represent two distinct intellectual frameworks that have profoundly influenced contemporary thought. Both challenge traditional narratives, yet they differ significantly in their perspectives, fundamental philosophies, and impact on contemporary discourse. This study aims to analyze the key aspects of neo-trends and postmodernist theories, highlighting their conceptual differences and examining their role in shaping literary and critical thought. By exploring their theoretical foundations, this paper seeks to clarify the nuanced relationship between these two movements and their relevance in Urdu criticism.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Zoraiz
